Default Oil pressure light coming on

Hi! I have a 2002 Beetle with the 1.8L Turbo motor. Car has only 47,000 miles on it. I have a problem with the oil pressure warning light coming on. It typically comes on at idle and below 2000rpms but does not do it consistently. I've tried everything to fix this and have no luck so far. Here is the list of things I've done:

- pulled the oil pan off and found a bunch of RTV material blocking the oil pick up tube. I replaced it. No help
- tried the Lucas oil additive (thickens the oil and is suppose to increase oil pressure. No help
- replaced the oil pressure switch. No help
- Did an engine flush followed by 5W30 synthetic blend. No help.
- Finally replaced the oil pump. Still no help.

I can not think of anything else to check. My guess is that the engine just has too much wear on it can not keep enough back pressure at low idle. I am so tried of this car I would rather drive it off a cliff at the moment.

Interesting.... I would get an oil pressure tester and it should test anywhere from 40 to 65 psi at 2000 rpms. It has a maximum pressure of 102 psi. If it tests low or high the only things I can think of would be a clogged or gummed up oil spray jet or a bad pressure relive valve.

we might be in the clear. The light has not come on today. We'll drive a few more days and see what happens.

BTW - this is the trouble child.

I've never seen that color before. Pretty cool.

I'm having the same problem. Have you fixed yours yet?? if so what was it?
I brought my car to the mechanic he said it was probably the oil pressure button so he replaced that ( i paid). But when i went to drive away it was the exact same so I brought it straight back. He now seems to think it might be more an electrically problem causing the light to go off, as the car is running fine.
