no reverse

Default no reverse

hi i'm considering buying a 96 golf the body and interior are excelent. but the manual tranny doesnt have reverse i'm a trained auto tech but i dont have any volkswagen experiance so does this problem nessicarilly mean time to buy a new tranny or can it be fixed. also the guys asking 1600.00 for the car good deal? well i'll appricate any feedback

imho, you qould be getting a good deal either way. I personally have a little experience with transimissions, and a rebuild on just about any is a straightforward process. also, even if the tranny is completely gone, you would cut the labor by doing it yourself as a trained mechanic. VW's are good cars in general, and in the case that the rest of the car is in a rather working and usable condition, i wouldnt be afraid of turning a few wrenches to get the car goin on all gears again. just my .02, others may feel differently. (But my opinion matters!) lol

No Reverse? as in when you put it into gear it does nothing or as in you cant find it? Believe me people have not been able to find it. just making sure :P

it definately has no reverse. put into where reverse should be nothin but faint grinding. thanks

Lol ok. that one would be............... needs a new gear. i think. the tranny has to be redone.

Just rebuild it yourself, or go to a junk yard and pull one out just to drive the car around. Either way you're gonna need reverse some point of your life..lol
