Default Looking to buy a tdi

Hi all, im new to the forum, but not new to diesels. I own a 94 dodge ram diesel 4x4, and used to own an old chevy diesel (JUNK!- lol) Anyways, im looking into buying a TDI to use for getting back and forth to work.I would be interested in opinions on which years to look for and what to stay away from. Im looking for something that is base model, all mechanical injection, and manual transmission. I will also be running homemade biodiesel in the car as well.

There is a couple of 96 jettas for sale locally, but i cant find any information on when the engines went from mechanical injection to computerized?? thanks in advance for any information

I would talk to a dealer or a mechanic. I wouldn't know where else to look being that I'm not very experience on them.

I have heard that the tdi's are almost bullet proof. with proper care it's easy to get between 200k-300k miles on them. and at 40-50mpg! I've always been curious about a biodiesel tdi myself. I say the hell with oil.

yeah they get great gas mileage, i have heard that they sometimes have trouble with carbon biuld up but mabey thats because my buddy was running crappy fuel. but other than that i hear they are great, and diesles cant detonate so you can run a ton of boost if you wanted
