Any suggestions are welcome on how to fix the latching/release mechanism that allows the split rear folding seats in my 2001 Golf to go down.

I cannot fold down the rear seat in my car- the lever located by the headrest has come loose; it seems to have come unhooked internally from the mechanism that releases the latch. Since this mechanism is internal to the back rest I'm not sure how to get at it, or fix it.

Right now the only way I can fold the seat down is to go in from behind (trunk side)stick in a screw driver to lift the latch up.
