I have a 68 beetle w/man trans. the sterring wheel is locked up and ignition key will not turn. what up with this??

 

turn steering wheel to relieve pressure on the key steering lock , at the same time jiggle and turn the key it might t ake some turn/wiggle/action when you get it free put some type of lube into the key slot a graphite spray with a stem on it works best
while you are at it do all the locks on the car. i am assuming everything was working fine before this and the key isnt worn down to a nub good luck

 

hi mate i had the same problem, but with a ford fiesta. i know its not the same car. the fault with my one was the key was worn out and the barrell was worn itself inside. i took it to my local lock smith and he charged me £20 to sort out.
