Help! Check Engine Light/Smog Check!!!

CAR- VW GTI 99 2.0

Problem- Check engine light came on 2 weeks before smog check
Went in for smog check following fault codes came up

Throttle/Pedal Pos.Sensor A Circ Malfunction
System to lean

I replaced the Throttle Body, erased the trouble codes with scanner from auto zone, removed the negative battery cable for 10 minutes or more.
After driving it for 200 miles the check engine light did not come on so I went in for a 2nd smog check
This time I failed the smog check due to MIL/Check engine light. No fault codes came up at the time. The Smog tech recommended I drive it for a couple more days.
That same night my Check Engine Light came on!
Used a scan tool, this time fault code P1582 Idle Adaptation at Limit popped up.
I cleaned the throttle body and replaced the crankcase hose.
Erased the code, After around 80 miles or so, Check Engine Light came on! Again P1582.
Does anyone have any ideas??
Is there anyway to reset the system without using a Vac-Com??

Please help, I have less than a week to pass smog! DMV won't give me another extension!

Hi
You might want to try setting the adaption with the VAG COM. Basic setting 04 then 098 or 060.
