Heat/Defroster probem
Hello everyone.
I have a 1998 Golf K2 and I'm having some trouble with the heater/defroster. First, if I put the front defroster on warm, only 2 of the 6 vents blow air, and they blow it very weakly. On cold, all 6 vents blow strong.
Secondly, when I use the heat, either for defrost or the heater, a light smoke comes out of the vents and it smells strange, almost like burnt plastic. Maybe burning coolant?
Does this sound like a bad heater core? Could that explain both problems?
Thanks a lot.

Hmm, it could be ur heater matrix? Sounds like you need a vagcom check. Some vw's use electronic motors to open and shut certain vents depending on what task is being asked by the controller (climatronic box). Either you climatronic box is malfunctioning (needs resetting using vagcom and lead) or its knackered. The heater matrix might be old/overloaded not sure... would be worth getting a diagnostic check first of all to see any error codes and problems electronically first.
hope this helps abit.

The A/c in my 89 Camaro just blows out the top defroster vents. Is there a way to fix this or at least jerry rig it so the the air will come out the lower dash vents?
Thanks
Ron
