Chip options for a 2002 gti 1.8t - "Thomas Racing Chip"

I've been looking around for performance chip options on my 2002 VW Gti. I don't feel like laying down $400+ for a apr or euro sport chip if there's a cheaper option that will get good results.

I saw this Thomas Racing chip online. I know there's a catch to it somewhere and I need someone to explain what the "chip" would do and if its a good idea. Has anyone ever actually bought/used one?

well, i just looked at it and read a little,
sounds flimsy as hell, i wouldnt trust that in my car.
$20??? c'mon, no way can they blow out something that works for that cheap.
I think if i was going to buy a chip, i think i would want to buy one specifically made for my car, not one that fits 80 models...
and lastly, im not certain with the entire chip process, but im pretty sure the ECU has to be flashed and what-not when installing an upgrade such as this.
This one makes it sound like you just plug it in and ive never heard of that before.
anyone else know a little more bout this crap?

yeah, i'm sure you would be wasting money, there would be no market for the expensive chips if the cheap ones did the same thing....

the cheap ones basically just load the compression chamber with gas... gives you more power but isn't real safe for the engine.... expensive ones will change valve timing advance, boost control, and also the compression ratio.... well i guess not all expensive ones will but name brands are a safe bet....

you should just save for a little while it'll be worth the wait...

good luck
