Battling with hot start.

Battling with hot start.
My model is 1976 1600.Live in Cape Town at sea level ambient temp 20degreesC.Start first time cold in morning after one press on pedal.During several daytime starts the engine winds for a long time before it fires.Worried about flattening battery.What is normally the trouble?
