99 Passat problem...maybe U-joints or Engine mounts?
Hey all, here's one for you experts out there...maybe it's a simple problem and I'm just not informed I dont know. I just bought a 99 passat, 4 cylinder standard (fuel injected). Whenever I let off the gas, there is the slightest jump. It's hard to tell where it's coming from by feel; could be the transmission, could be the engine itself. Happens at almost any speed, although its less significant at lower revs. It only jumps when the gas pedal is completely released, I can let off slowly and nothing happens until my foot actually clears the pedal. Also it feels as though cruising with foot off the gas while in gear is not as smooth as it should be...i can feel the slightest tremors every once in a while (hardly noticeable) Any ideas out there fellas?

I dunno, sounds to me you may be looking too deep into this. It may just be how the car is, if it's real slight, I dunno I'd leave it, but if it's a real concern for you, then have it checked out. If it was very noticeable, I would look at motor mounts make sure none of them are broken. Next, I would look at mating surface of the trans and motor maybe somethings broke, I dunno. If I think or hear something I'll let you know.

Hi I have a 98 passat with the exact same problem. But my car does it mostly when doing 40-50km. Took it to 2 dealers and mounts are fine. The best I got was....could be tranny fluid or torque converter, or valve body. All of which are very expensive. They cannot even guarantee that it will solve the problem.
