96 VW Passat GLX FWD/AWD?

Hello, I just recently picked up 96 Passat GLX station wagon, only 77,000 kms on it. Just wondering whats GLX (X) stands for is it for AWD, or just a FWD with all possible options? also i am having issues with auto transmission, car runs excellent just only it shifts hard in 3rd gear. I heard its a common issue with passat transmission. When i am driving in slow speed, it shifts in 3rd gear without any hard shifting, i also do have check engine light on. Is it could be computer or 3rd gear solonite issue???

I have a 97 Passat sedan. I really do not know what GLX stands for, I just think it is the model of your car and maybe it means you have the V6 engine. Your car is only a front wheel drive. I have a manual transmission and no problems with my transmission.

I would suggest changing the Transmission fluid. Be sure to get the correct fluid when and if you change it. Or have the fluid changed and the filter changed if it has one.

I live in eastern Washington state, are you near me? I do not see a lot of 96 and 97 Passats which I understand are the same except of course yours is a wagon, which is what i would like to have.
