66 squareback clutch issue

I have a 66 squareback that I just got a couple of months ago. It has been running great but last night the clutch stopped working. If I put it in neutral and start it then push the clutch to the floor it makes a slight grinding sound and I don't feel any resistance on the clutch until about an inch from the floor. I was able to get it home without the clutch and I don't think the clutch is shot, it feels more like it just needs the amount of play adjusted. Can anyone tell me how to do this or show me where I can find a free repair manual for this model? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this car is my livelyhood and I am so broke right now I can't afford to take it to a VW specialist.
