my daughter's 2008 Rabbit (2.5) started running really badly and threw a CEL. Had it scanned it based on what came back, sounded like a bad MAF. Replaced it and it ran worse. Almost won't stay running with it plugged in. With it unplugged, it'll run but really rough. Thought it seemed like a vacuum leak so I started poking around and found a broken vacuum line that connects to the cold air intake in front of the valve body. I took the hose to the parts store (first mistake) not actually knowing what is was SPECIFICALLY called and they were useless of course. I hacked up a temporary fix by taping up the break for now, but it didn't help the car run better (without the new MAF connected and worse again with it connected).
I looked for a parts diagram on line, but the best I could do was the attached image. The line I'm talking about connects the red circled port and down onto the block (intake?). First, can someone please tell me what piece/hose that is, and what to call it or how to order it.
Can I just replace the crappy plastic flex tube used for these vac lines with a classic rubber hose if I can't find the part?
What else can I check? Is there anything this engine is notorious for that is easy to check/test?
You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.
