Default 2002 Jetta 1.8t Timing Belt issue

Hey all, I just replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 1.8t Jetta, after reassembling the car, its hard to start and backfires out the exhaust. I'm assuming the crank is off by a tooth, any other suggestions before I take it all apart again? Any simple solutions that would avoid taking everything that is in the way, out again would be much appreciated.

Thanks
