Default 2 Rookies of the VW world need HELP!

Anyone,

My son and I are trying to get an old (1960 something) sandrail to run. The rail has been sitting untouched for approx. 10 years and it was running well when it was parked. We have put in new plugs, wires, oil, etc.. and are now in the process of trying to manually turn the motor over to break the rings loose withoutscoring the cylinders. The problem is that it isn't turning over using a breaker bar aand socket on the large pulley. We have pulled the plugs to reduce compression but this has not helped. Can we push it and pop the clutch? Are weforgetting to do something? Should I just shoot it?

Thanks,
dadandson
