1999 Golf - Heat issue

Hi,
Dam cold here in CT. When outside temperature is above 40 degrees , thermostat stays at 190 all the time.
If any colder the thermostat stays down around 120, and if you use heater it goes lower.
Doesnt make for a very warm commute. Will never go above 140 even after 1 hr commute.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

RE: 1999 Golf - Heat issue

Sounds like you have a great cooling system. If it's working that good and nothing is wrong, you might play the
ole trucker game. Use a good piece of card board and slide
it in front of the radiator, but be sure it's only about 1/2
covering the radiator, then after you drive it you will be able
to tell if you need to cut the cardboard down smaller or get
a larger piece. just don't block off all the air flow and be
sure to watch the temp gauge for over heating.
