When you want to replace your original equipment struts and shock so you need to use a lowering spring. It's give a batter durability, performance oriented shock with heavy duty components. A many company provide a well design and responsive companion for their Pro-Kit spring.

I've searched and read alot on this exact same subject, since I am myself on the market for lowering springs and from what Ive understood there are a couple points you have to know.

1- Stock shocks arent made for lowering springs. The springs you will install will therefore cause more stress on the shocks, causing them to wear out more quickly. That said, our cars are fairly young and our shocks are still good enough to last a while. Dont expect VW to replace them under warranty though.

2- They make kits that sell shocks that are made for lowering springs, but some people tend to say that theyre are cheap shocks.
