Installing amp & sub ?'s
So I want to install my amp and sub that I took out of my 99 civic, how difficult of a process is this? Should I just spend the cash and take it to Best Buy or somewhere and save myself a headache?
I must say the factory Monsoon system sounds above decent by itself, I was impressed with that when I bought the car.

well chances are you are going to have to get a new head unit (if the one in you car is original). if you go to best buy or circuit city they usually have "free" installation (still gotta pay for the wiring harnesses etc ~$50) with the purchase of a head unit. anyway, beyond that is actually installing the amp and sub. if the sub is still in a workable box, obviously you just throw it in the back of your new golf, if you want a new or custom box... that just depends on your carpentry skills.
after the sub there's the amp. where do you want it mounted? sometimes this can be a pain, depending on what you want to mount it to and whether you care about usable trunk space. however to me the most difficult part is running the wires, especially the power cable. that has to be run through the firewall, which i've never been able to do (on 4 cars). if you have all the pieces, i've had luck a couple times with finding someone who will just run the cable through the firewall for $15-20 and i did the rest. however i've also found places that will insist on doing a full "amp install" if they are going to run the power cable.
it just depends what your priorities are. i've run my own systems as well as paying to have it done. a professional install has always been a much prettier job than i can do. they know what's up. if you get an "amp install" it's probably going to run about $120 plus the cost of the cables if you don't have them (~$60). at this point in my life it's worth it to me, but when i was a poor college student i didn't always have $120 to spend.

you dont have to get a new head unit, they make a small box thing you can splice into the stock wiring that will allow you to wire in an amp and sub. the part can be found anywhere they sell car audio stuff for around 20 bucks. it is a pain in the a$$ to do yourself, but you can definitely save some money
