Default VW Jetta 2004 problem

Hey guys,

I am new on this forum and I am not quite a techie with cars. I need some help because after 2 years of owning my Jetta (2004, GLS, V4) I ran into my first problem. I hit a bump in the road or a stone or something of that sort recently when I was driving. I didn't think much of it since it didn't feel like a serious bump. The following day my car started squeaking and creaking like an old door with a rusty hinge and it was pretty loud and seemed to come from the front right hand side of the car. This creaking happens especially whenever I hit the brakes to slow down or when the car goes over a bump and so I assumed there was something wrong with my suspension. I went in to the Deel VW service down here at Miami. They checked it and have told me that something was wrong with my subframe and it will cost 1300$ to replace. Is this a reasonable charge? I had no idea what a subframe was. So can someone with more experience and mechanical knowledge please advise me on this? Thanks very much!

Raja.

When driving does your brakes loose pressure? Also does your car pull hard to one direction when you let go of the steering wheel? 1300 sounds freaking high if i were you i would get a second opinion. Also your insurance might qualify this to be repaired under coverage. more information please...........[sm=partyparty.gif]

subframe is a structural component of a vehicle, such as an automobile or an aircraft, that uses a discrete, separate structure within a larger body-on-frame or unit body to carry certain components, such as the engine, drivetrain, or suspension. The subframe is bolted and/or welded to the vehicle. When bolted, it is sometimes equipped with rubber bushings or springs to dampen vibration.

When a friend of mine had the same problem with his GMC suspension bushing... I heard that it cost him some a lot but not 1300$ a lot... Maybe your dealer his robbing you... My suggestion is to ask a second opinion... Good luck!!!!
