P0300 Code
I have a question regarding codes. My 2000 Jetta, 2.0L is throwing codes and I can't seem to track down the cause.
I am getting P300, P302, P303, P304 codes and a MIL Light.
The car runs rough when you first start it up and when the A/C is on. It is getting worse and now runs rough most of the time.
We have change the following to try and track down the problem.
- Pre Cat O2 Sensor
- Fuel Injection Cleaner
- Plugs (Iridium)
- Wires
- Coil Pack
- Timing Belt
I am at a loss and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this too.
My in-laws are starting to experience the same thing on their 2000 Passat, Turbo. They took it into the local dealership and all they could tell them, after charging $100, was to change the plugs and wires.
Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Erik

RE: P0300 Code
Hope this can help. All the codes you listed seem to deal with the ignition system. Start with plugs and wires, then maybee distributer and rotor. Good luck.

RE: P0300 Code
Yes I agree that all errors point to ignition system. I have been working on my own cars for the past 28 years and this one has me stumped.
The car is distributorless so I have changed everything in line. (coilpack, wires, plugs)
I have also change the o2 sensor which tells the computer the correct fuel output which can affect spark. I changed the timing belt as we had 90k on the car and if the belt gets stretched it can case timing to be off.
The only things left are:
EGR Valve might be sticking open.
Cam Sensor.
Crank Sensor.
Fuel Injectors.
We are not into the bigger ticket items so I was trying to see if anyone has experienced these symptoms before and had some success after replacing a single item.
I just hate shooting in the dark with money and with the dealership around here shooting in the dark I might have a better chance spending less money.

RE: P0300 Code
i had this problem, im 99% sure its the cam sensor. I had the dealer do it, as i had just got my car, and being 17 at the time, hadnt had much experience with it yet.
i dont know why the dealer told you to change the plugs and wires on the turbo passat, cuz the 1.8t utilizes direct spark ignition, each coil is fed directly to the plug, it has no distributor or the like. its all electronic.
like i recommend to everyone here, check the vortex, it has a plethera of info. Biggest auto enthusiast website on the net, and more info than youll ever need
