Oil capacity and stuff
2005 Jetta. 2.0L {BEV} What is the oil capacity of this car and also what do you recommend for oil weight, brand etc. Is a fram filter ok to use as well? This car came with no manual. I know, I need to get one. Thanks.

RE: Oil capacity and stuff
I believe the capacity is 4.3 quarts. That's based on the Haynes for '93-98.
Assuming that it's getting colder where you live I'd use 5W-30 or 5W-40 synthetic.
In the final analysis it really doesn't make that much difference. Any oil is better than no oil.

Motor Oil Capacity 2.0L BEV
Your oil capacity for the BEV motor is 4.2L of 5W40 - or 5W30 if unavailable. Add 4L; run the motor for a bit; shut off and check after around 10 minutes. Add more to top up.
Make sure you use a good quality oil - preferably synthetic - that meets the proper VW approval number 502.00 for your gasoline motor.
Use a good quality Mann or Mahle filter and change your oil religiously every 10,000 Km. Note that most manufacturers carry one oil filter (2870A) that supposedly fits all Volkswagens from 1975 to now but don't fall for this. There are several choices from the OEM manufacturers that are specifically meant for your motor.
I trust you didn't flip a coin between the Volkswagen and a disposable Japanese car but, rather, you purchased a Volkswagen because you appreciate quality. So now you have to take care of it - and this means spending more for quality products. This will reward you in the end by giving you many years of service and, let's not be coy about it, fun.
