odd noise
hey all. i own an 02 jetta 2.0L 5spd. occasionally when i start up i can hear a clicking coming from the engine/tranny. the clicking stops with the clutch disengaged. engaged in neutral it comes back. rpm doesnt matter clicking speeds up with revs. it also does this when in reverse clutch engaged butthere is no noise while driving in any othergear. dont know much about the vws this is my first. if anyone could help me out thatd be great. thanks.
also ihave a sub in the trunk and the centre highmounted brake light cover is vibrating on the rear window i have some speaker foam jammed in between there now but there must be a more professional way lol. i know someone out there has had to quick fix this. thanks

I second the throwout bearing. This is the bearing that takes the load when the clutch disk is forced off the pressure plate when the clutch pedal is depressed. When the clutch pedal is released, the clutch is re-engaged to the pressure plate that transfers the torque through the transmission and to the wheels. If this noise is heard only when the clutch pedal is in, regardless of gear, then it can only be the throwout bearing, this bearing is only used when the clutch pedal is pushed in. Due to the labor involved in the replacement, you should also get the clutch/pressure plate replaced at the same maintenance visit.
