Default hit the 100k mark. TIMING BELT PROBLEM! please help.

so i hit 100k in my 2000 2.0 jetta and from what i've heard in the past, the timing belt is something i dont wanna mess up. i called the dealership for a quote on how much it would cost to replace and they told me $1,300 bukz! is that really reasonable!!!? the guy at the stealer told me that they have to drop the front suspension in order to do the job. is that correct or their just trying to get more money outta me...? anyones opinion or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. thankz.
