Im having trouble with the cooling system of a Golf Caddy MK1. The engine was getting hot, and the light flashing on the guage. The top and bottom water reservoir hoses where leaking at the joints, so I replaced the radiator cap, clamps, reservoir, and thermostat (which didnt open in a cup of boiling water). I bled all the previous water out and have replaced it with water and 3litres concentrated coolant.

It still heats up and doest cool properly although there is an improvement. the light still comes on. The water level took a few runs to normalise, but i kept waiting to top it up again when it was cool. Now it seems that steam is hissing through the new water bottle cap.

Can anyone give me advise on what to do next.

Also, the fan doesnt seem to be coming on anymore, even when the engine is very hot and the car is standing.

 

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you need a new fan sensor switch which could be situated on the radiator. You could remove it and test the temperature it switches if at all.
