Default HELP plz

I bought a used VW Golf (1999) 2.0L a month ago and have been having problems after problems with it.

This pass weekend I replaced the Transmission filter, oil and gasket -Worked GREAT

I drive it to Auto Zone to get a AC recharge- The AC was already at 40 but hey turn the AC on see what happens- IT WORKED BUT....

I go outside and there is a big puddle of, what I think is tranny fluid, under my car. I back it up to put it into another parking spot to get a better look...

The shifter shifts into R-N-D but my car does not go anywhere... I have a water pump to put into it but please..someone help me!!!

There is no leak where the transmission filter is, the leaking fluid looks to be coming out from the back side of the engine area, behind the filter.

I love my VW but I am about to give up and cry and give the VW dealer 700.00 to fix it.

Just how mechanically inclined are you? Because you're going to have to the engine and transmission apart either way, but it sounds like the rear main seal.

The part itself isn't expensive (about $60 from VW Parts Vortex OEM 1999 Golf (New Style) Parts - VW Parts For Your 1999 Golf (New Style))

But it'll take some getting your hands dirty to fix it.
