Error codes for 2001 Golf.
My 2001 golf recently just shut off while driving. SO I immediately took it to the shop to get the codes and to see whats up with it. One other things thats happening is it sometimes takes a couple tries to start on a cold start and going up some hills it loses its power (not shut off) but like it bogs out but this is very rare (maybe a couple times a week)
The codes that came up were:
00518 - throttle position sensor (16-10 - Signal outside specs - Intermittent)
00529 - Engine speed signal missing (35-10 - - - Intermittent)
00545 - Engine Transmission Electrical Connection
- 35-10 - Open or short to ground - intermittent
01314 - Engine Control Module 49-10 - No communications - intermittent
16518 - Oxygen (Lambda) sensor B1 S1
P0134 - 35-10 No Activity - Intermittent
17978 - Engine Start Block by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-10
01176 - Key 07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent
00811 - System Not ready for Interrogation
00955 - Key 1 09-00 Adaption Limit surpassed
These are a lot of codes but the mechanic was saying that it could be the key being the issue. Either being a low battery or to get a new key. I am just wondering if anyone has come across these codes and problems. Thanks for your time.

Special Notes:
When found in a 2005 through 2007 2.5L NAR (North American Region) (1K) Jetta check the T121/62 (Red/Black) traced power wire to the ECM. If power is missing or a voltage drop is present that wire may be damaged anywhere between 6" and 18" from the connector itself. This will result in no communication in addition to a no-start.
Based on 2.5L Jetta feedback over the years a majority look like this example this example, however some are damaged further away per this example: with the close-up and distant views.

VAG Error Code: 16518/000308
EOBD II Error Code: P0134
Fault Location:
Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39), Bank 1 - No Activity Detected
Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
High fuel consumption.
Excessive smoke from exhaust.
High fuel consumption.
Excessive smoke from exhaust.
Wiring/Connector(s).
Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39).
Possible Solutions:
Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB).
Follow up with Readiness Screen Testing.
Check/Replace Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39), Bank 1.
Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB).
Follow up with Readiness Screen Testing.
Check/Replace Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39), Bank 1.
Tech Notes:
Replacing the Front Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 usually takes care of the problem.
When is the code detected?:
The voltage from the sensor is constantly approx. 0.3V.
Description:
The front Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39), Bank 1 is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor 1 (G39), Bank 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The Engine Control Module (ECM) adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.
VAG Error Code: 17978/005488/6260/5523
EOBD II Error Code: P1570
Fault Location:
Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer - Intermittent
Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
Immobilizer Warning Lamp ON.
Engine starting but stalling immediately.
Immobilizer Warning Lamp ON.
Engine starting but stalling immediately.
Key(s) not matched.
Instrument Cluster not matched.
Engine Control Module (ECM) not matched.
Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply faulty.
Engine Control Module (ECM) not matched.
Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply faulty.
Possible Solutions:
Check for Fault Codes in Immobilizer itself (part of Instrument Cluster in many cars, but separate Immobilizer Control Module in some).
Check Immobilizer Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) (usually in Instrument Cluster or Immobilizer Control Module).
Match Key(s)/Instrument Cluster/Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
Check Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply (Relay).
Check Immobilizer Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) (usually in Instrument Cluster or Immobilizer Control Module).
Match Key(s)/Instrument Cluster/Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
Check Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply (Relay).
Special Notes:
In case of Engine Starting Issues please make sure that you are really experience an Immobilizer related Problem! Even if the Immobilizer engages, the Engine will still start fine but cut out after 2-3 Seconds. If you are NOT experiencing this behaviour (e.g. Engine doesn't start at all) your Problem is very likely NOT Immobilizer related.
May be stored in Combination with 01176 - Key: Signal too Low in Immobilizer Control Module.
If no other immobilizer related fault codes are stored and the immobilizer related measuring blocks are fine except Engine Start not allowed, in rare occasions it helps to try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. (Example.)
Low battery voltage (including a faulty battery) may cause Immobilizer system malfunctions and testing should be done only with a known good battery installed.

VAG Error Code: 01176
Fault Location:
Key - Unauthorized - Signal too Low
Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
Electronics in ignition key (Transponder) missing or not operating.
The mechanically correct ignition key not adjusted electronically.
Possible Solutions:
Replace ignition key and re-adjust all ignition keys.
Re-adjust all ignition keys and check proper operation.
Re-adjust all ignition keys and check proper operation.
VAG Error Code: 00811
Fault Location:
System not Ready for Interrogation (Ross-Tech - Check Fault Codes Later)
Possible Cause:
The controller in the vehicle (transmission controller for example) has not checked for fault codes so it cannot state definitively whether any are present.
This typically shows up after a request to clear faults has been sent.
This typically shows up after a request to clear faults has been sent.
Possible Solutions:
Exit out of the controller and check for fault codes again.
After erasing the fault memory, the fault memory was interrogated again immediately (too quickly).
Erase fault memory again.
Now wait at least 30 seconds before interrogating the fault memory again.
