Picked up a fixer upper Cabrio for my niece as a first car. The previous owner lost the key so decided to try and ram a screwdriver in there to try and start it, then he found the key, so the key fits the trunk but he mangled the ignition so I cant get the key in to be able to turn it and insert the tool in hole to release the key assembly and replace. Anyone ever have any luck removing one of these with an alternative method, or am I stuck buying a whole new assembly with steering wheel lock etc. inc. keys but then will I have any issues with the new key being immobilized. The little plastic ring with wire going to it that goes around switch is still intact so I'm hoping that a new key will work without any reprogramming for this year ?
