Default 1996 cabrio maintenance please help

hi i just got a 1996 cabrio. its a 2.0 sohc. its needs a tune up and i want to do my own work.

it needs plugs, plug wires, distributor rotor and cap. can anyone tell me what i need to take off (i think the valve covers) and what tools i need to get to the spark plugs (i think a swivel socket attachment).

i need the torques for the plugs!

and also any advice on the wires, rotor, and cap. thanks youuu!

ps. i think the torques are about 25lb/ft for the plugs because its a cast aluminum head. thanks for any help

Default tune up

i am not a expert at these cars i just purchased a jetta and a cabrio but the replacing plugs cap rotor etc shouldnt be too difficult on these motors evrything is pretty easy to locate and as far as tourqing plugs onlu=y get tight then snug up never overtighten spark plugs do you really have to take off valve cover to change plugs i dont think that would be the case but if you google tune up on 96 cabro im sure you will get DIY hope this helps at least i responded unlike all the other viewers

good luck tom

I just changed the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor button on my 98 Cabrio. I had to remove the top half of the intake manifold in order to get to the center two plugs. Be sure to order a new gasket for the intake manifold. You might be able to salvage the old one, but, chances are you will not and if it sucks in unmetered air (all air entering the engine must be measured by the mass airflow sensor) it will not run properly. Also, since you have to take the intake manifold off anyway, I would recommend replacing the valve cover gasket while you are at it. If I remeber correctly, the torque value on the spark plugs was 18 ft/lbs. I hope this helps.
