Default 1995 Cabrio transmission compatibility

I recently bought a '95 Cabrio, only to discover that the four speed auto transmission won't shift into fourth gear (yes, you may mock me for poor purchasing wisdom!).
The shop says that the transmission is indeed shot and my plan is to swap it out for a standard. I understand that this is quite doable, my only question is compatibilty. There is a '93 Golf for sale in my area that would make a good donor - does anyone one if the transmission would be compatible or how I can find out? Thanks! =D

Finding compatible transmissions isn't easy as there are so many gearbox codes.

Thanks Keith!
My transmission code, then, is CNK (found thanks to a handy post called 'please tell us your car spec in your signature' ).
The link you gave me shows that transmission in:
CNK 4A 09/93-01/95 GOLF

CNK 4A 01/94-12/94 GOLF "CDN"

CNK 4A 01/94-12/94 GOLF "USA"

CNK 4A 08/94-12/94 JETTA
It seems to correspond to manual transmission code CHE:
CHE 5S 08/92-12/93 GOLF

CHE 5S 01/94-10/95 GOLF "CDN"

CHE 5S 01/94-10/95 GOLF "USA"

CHE 5S 08/92-07/93 JETTA
Would you consider it safe to attempt a swap to with a CHE from a '93 Golf?

Thanks Ian for pointing that out, perhaps you can convince MarianoKnisley? https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...e-34185/page2/

As I said they aren't easy to match a compatible gearbox you really need to find people that have done this successfully.

I don't really like promoting other forums but this one is very good as Crasher is very knowledgeable as he has is own Audi/VW workshop. Users have asked which gearbox will fit their model and he's told them.

VolkswagenForum.co.uk - UK's #1 VW Forum

That's another forum I ask users to add their car spec to their signature so you will be used to that. If you join I assume you will use the same username.
