P1256 and P0303 Codes
My father recently acquired a 2000 Beetle 2.0 and the check engine light has popped on. The codes that come up are P1256 and P0303.
The diagnostic cd says P1256 is "Manufacturing Control Fuel Air Metering" but all the forums say that its "Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Open/Short To B+".
The diagnostic cd is in agreement that P0303 is a cylinder #3 misfire.
For the P1256, which is it, and more importantly, what needs to be done to resolve this issue? Thermostat replacement? Is there a how-to on how to do this?
I cleared the codes, and P256 came back on almost immediately, there has not been a repeat of P0303. Any advice for P0303, if it doesn't reoccur, should I not be concerned? If it does, replace plugs/wires?
Sorry to be such a newb, I usually work on my Saturn instead - I'm hoping that this repair will be pretty straightforward.
Thanks for any advice!
