How to disable the alarm? 2001 Beetle
Hi all,
A guy in my apartment complex owns a 2001 Beetle, and its alarm goes off for no reason at all hours. I spoke with him and he said he's taken it to multiple dealerships and nobody can figure it out.
He said if I could figure out a way to disable it, he'd be game. Unfortunately I don't think pulling the horn fuse is a reasonable option.
I did some searching and found this: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...ble-alarm-2001
However, that advice doesn't explicitly say it's for the Beetle, so I'm not sure if it applies.
Can anyone here confirm whether this is the right advice? Or if you've got any other ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks!
Steve

Hey ScrambleJams, have you asked a VW service tech. The reason I ask is that I am thinking they could go into the ECM and dissable it this way. Basically just go into the brains of the car and shut it off from there. I have a buddy that hates having his door locks locking on there own(non vw) when he drives off so he always has these "switched off" by a tech. Might be worth looking into and I doubt it would cost that much. I just had a new key programmed and it cost about $40.00, I can't see that being much more.
And I def. don't agree with cutting any wires at all on the car. This will only lead to prob. and I'm sure would cost much more in the long run.
