Diesel MPG ratings?

RE: Diesel MPG ratings?
This doesn't really answer your question but I did notice that the rating listed in the brocure is a heck of lot higher than the sticker on the '06. The brocure has it listed at 58mpg highway and the sticker was 42 I think. Not sure why the difference.

RE: Diesel MPG ratings?
I have a 1998 VW Beetle with the 1.9L TDI engine code ALH. I've got two motors one I've got 66.67 mpg(summer trip few stops avg speed 122 km\hr). The other motor is a 2001 1.9L TDI (ALH). So far the best I've got same kind of drive is 54 mpg. Now both of these motors were moving the same vehicle. WHY such a difference in mpg's. First the 66mpg motor was well boke in, and I had the injection pump timing tweaked. The 54 mpg motor is almost broke in, but the injection pump timing is as was from factory. I believe that this timing is critical to mpg's. DO NOT TRY AND ADJUST THIS IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO SPEND $$$ (Interference engine).
It requires special tools, knowledge, a service manual, and MANY new bolts, Oh yeah lot's of time.

In 2005 they changed to the PD (Pumpe Duse) motor. It has a seperate cam-driven high-pressure injector pump on each cylinder. It has a camshaft driven tandem fuel pump (low pressure) that feeds the higher unit-injector pumps located in the cylinder head under the rocker cover. The 2005 and later 1.9L diesels are rated at 100hp and 177 ft/lbs of torque. It takes more fuel to make more horsepower.
