Default 76' Trunk release problem

The button on the trunk of my 76' beetle will press completely in, but the trunk does not open. I read some other posts regarding this topic and was wondering if I have the same problem. Is it stuck? Should I spray some pb-blaster on it? Is there a release for it in the glove compartment? There is some sort of latch that moves up and down, but without a manual, i'm quite clueless as to what it does. Any help would be appreciated!

Default RE: 76' Trunk release problem

Unless something is radically different about that year, you should be able to find a trunk release lever on the left side of your glove box. You should be able to pull down on the lever, but be careful to keep steady, even pressure so you don't break the release cable. It might be tight, but you should feel a sudden release on the lever once you've pulled it all the way down. If the the cable does snap on you, then it will get very interesting (in the Chinese sense of the word) to get your trunk open. Best of luck!
