Default 1966 Beetle wont run right HELP!!!!!

I have a 1966 squareback and I just can't seem to get it to run the way it should. This Is what I have done to It. I replaced the coil, spark plugs,Rebuilt the carbs(solex32),plug wires,points-condenser,starter,battery. The points are set at .016 Wene I go to start it. I have to pump the hell out of it. Then it takes at least 20 sec of turning over to start. Once it starts I have to keep pumping the hell out of it to keep it running. While it is running it is puffing black smoke. And poping(not back firing). But wene I first got the car it run good.I had the motor idleing and fine tuning everthing and it was running good(it was doing a little poping) but it was running.so I shut it off. And I tryed to start it again. After about an hour. And Its been running bad ever since. I have tryed to ajust the valves.still runs the same. The only thing I have not tryed is the cap and rotor button. I wondering if maybe the distribator is wore out. And the point gap is changing. I have tryed every thing i could think of to try to get this thing running.

It sounds like you've may have dropped a Google rebuilding the carb if it pumping out black smoke, is the choke flap working properly?

Have you checked if the ignition timing is spot on?

A faulty distributor cap will normally show up on a visual inspection. Make sure there is a spring loaded carbon brush in the centre and there are no HT cracks between segments.

To check the rotor arm remove the king lead (centre lead) out of the cap and hold it 6mm from the centre of the rotor arm. Get a small screwdriver and just open the contact breakers. If a spark jumps to the rotor arm then the insulation looks like it failing the spark is going to earth through the rotor arm, replace the rotor arm.

The points gap shouldn't alter providing the locking screw is tight.

Your other post has been deleted as its the same.

I have replaced the coil with the old one does the same thing. I replaced the plug wires with the old one does the same thing.so i dont think it is the ignition system. but I could be wrong.I have not replaced the cap or rotor button yet.I could be them. I still have to check for air leaks on the intake.

Until you know the ignition timing is correct which it doesn't sound like it is you don't know why it doesn't run properly.

Just check it statically with a test light.

I will ask you again. https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...gnature-34185/

Well I'm glad you sorted out the main problem with water in the fuel, do you know how it got in there?

You still haven't answered the question is the ignition timing correct?

I am going to check that today. Right along with some our thing like the valves.
The cap and rotor. I wish I new what mark to use on my pully. I have a type 3 motor. Sit does not have the standerd pully on the front. It has the one with the fan built Into It.

yes the ignition time is correct. I checked it and double checked it. I re checked the valve clearance it is .006 I have come to the conclution that maybe the (distrubator) is bad. It looks like the origanal. so It Is pretty old. maybe something in side went out like the macanikal advance or somthing else.
